Scheduling an engagement session with the same photographer that will be photographing your wedding is a great idea! You’ll get to know each other a little better, and after you see how wonderful you look in the photos you’ll feel more relaxed about having your picture taken on your wedding day.
If you’re wondering what to wear, I would suggest an outfit you’d wear on a nice date. If you decide to wear a dress, just be sure it’s something you can move comfortably in. You and your fiancee don’t have to match, but solid-colored clothing (no patterns or logos) in “cool colors”, e.g. blues, greens, grays and browns all combine to make a lovely photo.
If you are not sure about whether to go casual or a little more formal, bring both sets of clothing and make that decision with your photographer. You’ll probably want to use some of the images on your Save-the-Date card, so keep that in mind when making your decisions. I personally find the most flattering top for most women is a v-neck shirt/sweater, preferably with ¾ length sleeves. You should feel free to bring along clothing with various necklines (e.g. v-neck, boat neck, crew). You might also consider wearing a tank top with a sweater or blouse over it. Layering is great! Boot cut, dark jeans with heels make us all look taller and leaner. Funky shoes (or brightly-colored shoes) are also fun in photographs! You might want to bring along comfortable walking shoes too.
Guys should wear a collared shirt and dark shoes and trousers. Jeans are fine as long as they are not too bleached out.
Feel free to bring any props you like (picnic basket, champagne glasses, kites, etc.) or things that are meaningful to both of you. If you happen to have a pet you’d like to include in a few photos, bring treats, toys and an extra pair of hands to help.
